Co-op Position (6 months) -Retinal and vascular Biology

The Future Talent Program features Cooperative (Co-op) education that lasts up to 6 months and will include one or more projects. Job Description:

Our Company's Research & Development department in South San Francisco is an innovation hub designed to foster collaboration between scientists to discover new medicines to improve human health. The Retinal and Vascular Biology group, a part of Cardiometabolic Disease Department, is seeking a motivated and creative Co-op with an in vitro pharmacology background. This is an exciting 6-month limited term training opportunity for an aspiring early career future scientist to work with colleagues in the group, department, Research & Development South San Francisco and across the broader company network. The ideal candidate will be a Masters or PhD candidate with proficiency in running in vitro assays.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Masters and PhD candidates in molecular biology, neuroscience, or related biology programs with hands-on experience in in vitro assays.



Specific Responsibilities and required skills:

  • Employ innovative molecular and cell biology platforms to advance target validation and drug discovery efforts.
  • Hands on experience with in vitro biochemical and cell-based assays including Flowcytometry, Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and Meso Scale Discovery
  • Experience in culturing human primary cells including PBMCs
  • Perform microscopy based high throughput assays and analyze the results.
  • Develop and optimize relevant in vitro cellular models for the study of retinal and vascular diseases.
  • Work in close collaboration with senior colleagues to design, conduct, troubleshoot, and analyze experimental data for target identification and validation purpose
  • Commitment to experimental excellence and rigor
  • Proficiency in using professional data analysis and visualization software such as Spotfire, Excel and GraphPad Prism
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong motivation and passion for science
  • High level of organizational skills to execute project in timely manner



Preferred skills:

  • Knowledge and experience in retinal and/or vascular biology
  • Experience in handling and processing ex-vivo tissue samples for downstream in vitro analysis
