Bioinformatics Scientist IV

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist IV to design, implement, and deploy NGS data analysis workflows for data processing, visualization, integration, and mining. This role supports novel therapeutic target identification and disease biomarker discovery in a pharmaceutical research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement methods for omics data analysis and genomic data set interpretation (e.g., bulk RNA-seq, scRNA-seq, ATAC-Seq, spatial RNA-Seq).
  • Utilize contemporary data visualization methods such as R Shiny and D3.
  • Analyze diverse datasets (multi-omics) to identify relevant drug discovery targets and downstream effects related to immune diseases.
  • Conduct data mining from internal, collaborative, and public databases to assist in immune disease characterization.
  • Select and benchmark methods and tools, and define and perform appropriate QC measures.
  • Apply and develop innovative analysis approaches when standard methods are inadequate.
  • Interpret and present analysis results to coworkers and collaborators.
  • Follow relevant scientific literature to ensure optimal methods and stay updated on emerging practices in the field.
  • Communicate work effectively, both orally and in writing; contribute to writing protocols, procedures, and technical reports.
  • Automate processing, results reporting, and delivery.
  • Ensure data integrity and ethical handling.
  • Comply with applicable regulations and maintain proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong scientific understanding and experience in bioinformatics within a pharmaceutical research environment.
  • Experience with more than one of the following: NGS analysis, functional genomics, big data analysis statistics, or multi-omics data integration.
  • Good knowledge of existing bioinformatics databases and file formats.
  • In-depth understanding of computational methods for NGS analysis and usage of public data resources.
  • Strong hands-on skills in programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Shiny, UNIX/Linux, UNIX bash shell scripting, Nextflow), statistical software, cloud computing, visualization tools, and relevant R/Bioconductor packages.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce well-designed and documented code and familiarity with code repositories such as GitHub.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in accessing LLMs through APIs, such as the OpenAI API or LangChain.
    • Experience with web app development, specifically Streamlit or Shiny.
    • Familiarity with computational biology tools and experience working with computational biologists to solve problems.
    • Enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment.
    • Ability to troubleshoot both individually and as part of a team.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate openly, transparently, and consistently.

    Certifications:

  • Not specified.

  • Education:

    • Master's degree from an accredited institution with one-plus (1+) years of experience in a related scientific discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Genomics, Biostatistics, or Bioinformatics) OR
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with seven-plus (7+) years of experience in a STEM discipline.
