  1. POSITION Biomedical Equipment Technician



  1. PRIMARY PURPOSE



Under the direction of the Director of Materials Management, the Biomedical Equipment Technician calibrates, repairs and inspects medical equipment used in Critical Care Transport operations at Boston MedFlight. This is a full-time, non-exempt position working 40 hours per week.

  1. ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Following Boston MedFlight procedures, inspects newly acquired medical devices and systems for safety and functionality and attaches and assigns appropriate control numbers and labels to medical equipment and devices.
  • Evaluates, troubleshoots and perform equipment repairs to critical care transport medical equipment and devices.
  • Performs manufacture required preventative maintenance inspections and calibrations on organization's medical equipment and devices.
  • Makes periodic rounds of assigned clinical areas to assess operation of medical devices and systems.
  • Participates in medical equipment evaluations, installations and upgrades, including software revision updates.
  • Instruct clinical staff and other support personnel on the operation, safe use, care and handling, and basic troubleshooting and repair of medical equipment.
  • Using a computer database thoroughly and accurately documents inspections, repairs, maintenance procedures in a timely manner.
  • Documents and maintains accurate and current inventory records of all replacement and repair parts.



  1. POTENTIAL DUTIES
  • Computer data entry
  • Assigned administrative duties.
  • Complete assigned errands.
  • Unrestricted travel between BMF bases, Boston and surrounding communities.



  1. MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Licensed Massachusetts driver in good standing with the Dept. of Motor Vehicles.
  • Must be able to read, speak, write, and comprehend the English language without restriction.
  • Associate's (AS) degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or equivalent level of education or experience.
  • One to two years' related experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with EMS equipment is preferred.



  1. REQUIREMENTS
  • Works in a patient care adjacent environment and is potentially exposed to possible infectious diseases and chemical solvents and agents used in the medical and aviation industries.
  • Able to work in adverse or extreme weather conditions.
  • Pre-employment physical and annual physical examinations required.
  • Covid and Flu Immunizations must be up to date.
  • Pass random drug screen as required.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds using proper body mechanics and bend and carry heavy equipment.
  • Free of physical ailment which may impair consciousness or cognitive ability.
  • An FBI background and CORI checks will be performed prior to employment. Favorable criminal background check required.
