Certified Medical Coder

Barrett Hospital & HealthCare invites applications to fill a Certified Medical Coder position to join our team of professionals. As a member of the Health Information Management team, the Certified Medical Coder performs highly technical and specialized functions for Barrett Hospital & HealthCare. The Certified Medical Coder reviews, analyzes and assigns appropriate diagnostic and/or procedural information to ensure compliance with established coding guidelines, third party reimbursement policies and regulatory guidelines. The Certified Medical Coder must have demonstrated experience in abstracting and can assure final diagnoses and procedural documentation as stated by providers are valid and complete. The Certified Medical Coder must possess advanced knowledge of medical terminology and coding conventions (ICD-10 CM, CPT-4, HCPCS) with established rules by the American Medical Association, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for the assignment of diagnostic and procedural codes. Incumbents must have a passion for team work, customer service excellence and enjoy working with the public.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Two years' experience as a medical coding professional in a hospital or clinic setting. Active CCS, CCS-P, CPC or RHIA certification required through AHIMA or AAPC.
