Southwood Psychiatric Hospital is the premier psychiatric hospital in the region with a focus on children and adolescents. Southwood provides comprehensive, age-appropriate care to children and adolescents whose lives have been impacted by a broad scope of emotional, behavioral, developmental, and cognitive challenges. This treatment is provided within our 74 bed hospitals.

To ensure that each young person receives the focused treatment that they need in the environment that is best suited to them, our mental health hospital near Pittsburgh, PA, offers the following four programs:

  • Acute inpatient program: All genders ages 4-18
  • CHOICES residential program: Males ages 10-18
  • Intellectual developmental disability/autism spectrum disorder (IDD/ASD) residential program: Males ages 6-21
  • Family-based mental health services (FBMHS) program: All genders ages 3-18

What We Treat

Qualifications:

  • The Child Psychiatist will be Pennsylvania licensed
  • Will have completed an ACGME approved residency and fellowship through an appropriate educational program
  • Board Certification or Eligiblity is required
  • Ability to work hours to meet the needs of our clients
  • Experience in child/adolescent treatment preferred

Responsibilities

Summary:

  • Responsible for providing clinical services to patients at the facility.
  • Practice within medical protocols defined by federal and state regulations, as well as by corporate, facility policy or procedures.
  • Review medical information on patients to ensure medical stability and to offer medical recommendations.
  • Evaluate patients for mental, emotional or behavioral disorders.
  • Treat or direct treatment of patients, utilizing a variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications.
  • Review and complete medical information for individual care plans, documents services and information in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidential documentation, compliance and billing in accordance with the policy and procedures.



Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD or DO) required.
  • One or more years' post graduate degree practice preferred.
  • Licensed in the state in which the facility(s) operate.


Licenses/Certifications:

  • Board certification in psychiatry
  • Current DEA credentials to prescribe controlled substances without restrictions and per regulation within the state in which the practitioner will be working.
