Director of Nursing

Job Summary:

The Director of Nursing will oversee the operations and staff of the Emergency Room (ER) and the Medical Surgical Floor. This role is critical to ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and standards in a critical access hospital setting. The Director of Nursing will be responsible for strategic planning, staff management, patient care, and coordination between departments to optimize patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management:
    • Provide leadership and direction to nursing staff in the ER and Medical Surgical Floor.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective nursing operations.
    • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment to promote staff engagement and professional development.
    • Ensure compliance with state, federal, and local regulations, as well as hospital policies and procedures.
    • Direct supervision of nursing supervisors to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational goals.
  • Patient Care:
    • Oversee the delivery of patient care, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and safety.
    • Monitor patient outcomes and implement strategies to improve care and services.
    • Collaborate with physicians, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to coordinate patient care and services.
  • Staff Management:
    • Recruit, hire, and retain qualified nursing staff.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and mentoring to staff.
    • Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and optimal patient care.


Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience in a hospital setting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
    • Experience in emergency nursing and medical-surgical nursing required.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Current RN license in ME.
    • Advanced certifications in emergency and/or medical-surgical nursing preferred (e.g., CEN, CMSRN).
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
    • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards.


Working Conditions:

  • The role requires frequent walking, standing, and occasional lifting of patients.
  • Must be able to handle high-stress situations and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
