Director of Nursing
Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing will oversee the operations and staff of the Emergency Room (ER) and the Medical Surgical Floor. This role is critical to ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and standards in a critical access hospital setting. The Director of Nursing will be responsible for strategic planning, staff management, patient care, and coordination between departments to optimize patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management:
- Provide leadership and direction to nursing staff in the ER and Medical Surgical Floor.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective nursing operations.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment to promote staff engagement and professional development.
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and local regulations, as well as hospital policies and procedures.
- Direct supervision of nursing supervisors to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational goals.
- Patient Care:
- Oversee the delivery of patient care, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality and safety.
- Monitor patient outcomes and implement strategies to improve care and services.
- Collaborate with physicians, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to coordinate patient care and services.
- Staff Management:
- Recruit, hire, and retain qualified nursing staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and mentoring to staff.
- Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and optimal patient care.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience in a hospital setting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in emergency nursing and medical-surgical nursing required.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Current RN license in ME.
- Advanced certifications in emergency and/or medical-surgical nursing preferred (e.g., CEN, CMSRN).
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations and standards.
Working Conditions:
- The role requires frequent walking, standing, and occasional lifting of patients.
- Must be able to handle high-stress situations and work in a fast-paced environment.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
