Environmental Engineer

Job Description:

Keish Environmental is seeking a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Environmental Engineer. This position works alongside our clients, both in government and the private industry, to oversee all aspects of regulatory environmental/stormwater compliance on projects.

In this role, the candidate will manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced and rewarding environment. Our public and private sector clients rely on Keish staff to fulfill their project needs for timely environmental compliance documentation, including coordination and communication internally and externally with a diverse group of stakeholders.

This position is a FULL TIME, On-CALL position in a HYBRID work setting. The employee will be required to travel to project offices or work sites to attend meetings three days a week.

You must have a valid United States driving license and 3+ years of a clean driving record, defined as, "A clean driving record isone without any accidents, moving violations, or application of points as assigned in the California driver's record system."

The ideal candidate will have a keenness of observation and physical endurance/stamina (ability to twist, turn, stretch, reach, climb, pull, walk long distances on flat and hilly terrain, sit and stand for long periods of time - a comfortable full range of motion, and to carry weights up to 30 lbs.

Duties:

  • Overseeing and managing infrastructure projects and programs of varying complexities for our clients, who include local, state, and federal governmental agencies and private industry.
  • Gather, analyze, and integrate stormwater and environmental compliance data from clients, their contractors, and/or resource agencies, as well as from on-site field testing and sampling.
  • Creating, editing, reviewing, and maintaining Environmental Compliance Plans and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and technical plans (i.e. stabilization plans, Rain Event Action Plans, etc.) for project sites.
  • Review of environmental compliance construction submittals including stormwater quality, groundwater quality, air quality, ambient air, noise & vibration, and other waste sampling, testing, and monitoring reports for compliance with requirements.
  • Coordinate and track sustainability requirements, documentation and certifications (LEED, Envision, etc.)
  • Provide on-site training in environmental and stormwater compliance measures to clients and their contractors, as well as project inspectors, as necessary.
  • Coordinating with other company-wide project teams to ensure regulatory compliance for stormwater management, when required.
  • Maintain expertise in existing and emerging software for tracking and analyzing stormwater data to improve the company's stormwater programs. Identify, track, and communicate process improvements, wherever appropriate.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Environmental or Civil Engineering, and/or other related engineering field, showing an emphasis in water resources and/or construction.
  • Must be able to read construction plans, specifications, estimates, stormwater management plans, site analysis diagrams, laboratory reports, and geotechnical schematics.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in complex projects/programs, with extensive team collaboration.
  • Experienced with preparing and implementing SWPPPs and Environmental Compliance Plans.
  • P.E. License or EIT on cusp of licensure considered.
  • COVID-19 vaccinations required (medical or religious exceptions granted).
  • Valid state-issued driver's license and a clean driving record for at least the previous five (5) years, and a reliable mode of transportation to remote work sites.
  • Background checks required.
  • 2-3 years of construction management/compliance experience.
  • Effectively work independently and with a diverse project team, including client management, engineers, planners, and biologists, as well as regulatory agencies. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, municipal officials and organizational peers, contractors, and developers.
  • Strong technical reading, writing, and reporting experience related to understanding engineering drawings, construction specifications, and technical environmental reports.
  • Proficient with personal computers, digital devices, software applications including but not limited to document writers (Word, Adobe Acrobat, Publisher), online file access software (DropBox, SharePoint), photo and graphic programs (Photoshop, Roxio), database management (Access, Projects, FileMaker), email and web-based applications. Proficient with computer applications including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Working knowledge of Adobe and Bluebeam. Specialized knowledge of AutoCAD or GIS a plus.



Preferred Qualifications, Skills, Experience:

  • Advanced degree in civil/environmental engineering (preferred).
  • A resume showing progressively responsible experience in environmental restoration practices, erosion control, and/or water resource testing.
  • CGP Qualified SWPPP Developer (QSD).
  • Experience with the California Stormwater Multiple Application and Report Tracking System (SMARTS).
  • Strong knowledge of the California State Water Board permitting process and water quality techniques, practices, regulations, and laws.
  • Enjoy learning and sharing knowledge with others for the success of the company.
  • Knowledge of the principles of local government administration municipal laws, rules, regulation, and ordinances.
  • Knowledge of water quality regulations and experience working with the Regional and State Water Boards.
  • Knowledge and interest in sustainability and green building.
  • Knowledge of general construction and linear utility construction.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance with CEQA and NEPA and other applicable laws, including, but not limited to, the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Ability to adaptively manage project and schedule changes.
  • Proactive communicator, collaborator who can take and give direction, provide actionable reports, and project updates.
  • Highly organized and motivated self-starter with a demonstrated track record of successfully managing and completing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Be flexible and able to work with a variety of topics and tasks. Proven ability to perform in a high volume, time sensitive/deadline environment with a track record of dependability.
  • Flexible hours and availability at nights and on weekends if required by the project (typically pre-scheduled).
  • Perform physical labor and movement, including standing, climbing, sitting, and/or lifting. Able to physically transport 30 lbs. on a consistent basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment with sensitive information disclosures.
