Job Summary
Evaluation, coordination, and exercise educational planning of the Cardiac, Pulmonary, and/or Vascular Rehab patient. Position focuses on risk reduction, behavior intervention, and lifestyle modification.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree or Higher in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Other Field Related to Science/Health
Minimum Years of Experience: None.
Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Certified in Basic Life Support or certified within 3 months of employment (Bi- annual CPR recertification).
Required Training: Advanced knowledge of exercise physiology, nutrition, risk-factors and behavior modification strategies as related to Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitative Services;
Experience in providing individual and group educational programs for patients and their families that promote positive health behaviors;
Annual mandatory Safety and Compliance Training in E-Train;
Competency skills maintenance in performing Cardiac Rehab monitoring and interpretation of various EKG rhythms;
Basic Computer Skills.
Essential Functions
- Develops, coordinates, implements, documents patient progress, therapeutic response, and follow-up on all phases of the Cardiac, Pulmonary, and/or Vascular Rehab Programs.
- Coordinates patient incentive programs.
- Assist in new patient evaluation, orientation, and follow-up including graded exercise testing, exercise prescription, body composition analysis, lipid analysis, and exercise session explanation.
- Assist in supervision of the exercise sessions including exercise prescription upgrades as necessary.
- Assist in patient record keeping, patient attendance, patient progress notes, and posting of charges.
- Participates in the educational opportunities offered to the patients.
- Assist in orientation of new employees and students.
- Participiates and contribues to the departmental and organizational CQI process.
- Displays appropriate skills in the use and maintenance of departmental equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment for the patients.
- Assesses patients for possible signs and symptoms of adverse reactions to exercise.
- Contributes to the design and implementation of program development (Community presentations, Cardiac Rehab, Pulmonary Rehab, Vascular Rehab, etc.)
- Responsible for updating staff and patients to new trends in exercise therapy.
- Participates in multidisciplinary rehabilitation staff meetings.
- Provides a good role model for the type of lifestyle Cardiac, Pulmonary, and/or Vascular Rehabilitation promotes.
- Maintains an optimistic and professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
- Conforms to Service Excellence and Expectation Policies.
- Demonstrates ability to perform professional assistance, exercise observation and training, and comfort and safety measures that are appropriate to the following patient populations: Adults - 18 years thru 65 years. Geriatric - 65 +
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
