Nurse Practitioner
POSITION SUMMARY
Under limited supervision of the Chief of Adult Medicine, the Nurse Practitioner provides primary care to individuals and families in the field of pediatrics, geriatrics, family planning, maternity, family and others in both normal or high-risk populations with complex nursing/medical needs, by agency guidelines and medical protocols. The Nurse Practitioner functions undersigned medical protocols by the medical preceptor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Performs comprehensive examinations, including physical, and developmental assessment and screening for psychosocial problems.
- Completes timely documentation in the EHR for each patient encounter and review patient medical records for accuracy, and completeness as outlined in BJHCHS Policy for ensuring timely medical record documentation.
- Requests, obtains, and evaluates results of screening tests.
- Prescribes treatment plan for management/care for patients and families according to protocols and refers appropriately.
- Develops a health maintenance plan for individual patients which includes health education, health promotion/disease prevention and general anticipatory guidance.
- Counsels patients and families appropriately regarding the management of their care.
- Monitors the treatment regimen in selected populations.
- Provides ongoing staff education based on the health needs of the population served. Provides in-service education in area of specialty. Provides individualized clinical orientation for nursing personnel in specialty areas.
- Conducts quality assurance review utilizing clinical measures by life cycle.
- Serves as an advocate for the center and liaison to local hospitals, and health organizations as appropriate.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Nurse Practitioner Board Certification required
- MSN or higher education required
- Possess a South Carolina State Controlled Substance license and Federal DEA.
- Current CPR certificate required
