Hospice Physician

As a Navian Hawaii hospice physician, you will guide patients and their family on their journey, delivering comfort and support with a caring heart, replacing fear with hope, helping them find the beauty and joy in every moment, and providing each person with the kindness and dignity they deserve.
Primary Responsibilities:
Clinical Care
- Compliments the attending physician's care, act as a medical resource to the interdisciplinary Team members and assure continuity of Navian Hawaii's medical services. These services, to meet general medical needs, are provided to the extent that they are not met by others, most importantly being that the patient receive appropriate measures to control uncomfortable symptoms to the extend desired by the patient.
- Completes admission statements of attestation, Certification of Terminal Illness (CTI) and face-to-face visits as required in a timely manner, and in compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation (COP).
- Attend and participates in the development and regular review of the individual plan of care at the regular IDG meetings.
- Coordinates Interdisciplinary Group decisions for both home care and inpatient care.
- Makes decisions regarding admissions and discharges to the program in conjunction with the Interdisciplinary Team, the attending physicians, and bases these decisions on recognized standards of practice as well as eligibility guidelines established by the fiscal intermediary.
- Participates in patient care decisions re: appropriate disposition and levels of care within the programs of Navian Hawaii.
- Is credentialed (in accordance with agency needs) to admit patients to local, contracted hospitals.
- Performs billable patient home visits at productivity levels mutually established with the President.
Professional Relationships
- Serves as liaison with community physicians, medical schools, and teaching hospitals.
- Actively develops and maintains long-term, beneficial collaborative peer relationships throughout the island of Oahu and other areas served.
Program Development
- Actively engages in the development of programs within Navian Hawaii in order to accomplish strategic objectives or other desired goals of the organization.
Clinical Education
- Contributes to the development of in-service education for Navian Hawaii staff and volunteers.
- Actively engages in public and professional education, directly through Navian Hawaii's efforts and/ or in collaboration with others in the community.
- Supports Medical Students, Interns, Residents and Fellows as opportunity presents in collaboration with the John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Administration
- Participates in developing and revising written patient care objectives and procedures.
- Provides supervision for cross coverage of physician services.
- Disseminates necessary information and reports to the governing body as needed.
- Responsible for supporting compliance with licensing and Medicare certification, including all rules and regulations from Chapter 94 and CMS, as applicable.

- Expected to participate in the Performance Improvement Program, Compliance Program, and to comply with Federal and State regulations governing hospice programs,

- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Medical Director and President.

- Demonstrated ability as an effective speaker and teacher, at the bedside, in the team setting and at public educational offerings.
- Demonstrated capability to function well in a hospice interdisciplinary team, as evidenced by conflict resolution skills, clear communication skills and behaviors of overall accountability.
- Promotes an environment of dedication to providing excellent customer service for the patients, their families and other guests. Educates staff and holds them accountable to the standards for our organization.
- Able to analyze problems and adopt an effective course of action. Requires learning a number of policies and procedures, writing, arithmetic and problem solving skills.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Experience and Educational Requirements:
- Must possess a valid medical license to practice in the State of Hawaii.
- Must possess Federal DEA and State of Hawaii NED certificate/licensure
- Expected to participate in appropriate continuing education as may be requested and/or required by the Medical Director or President. In addition, expected to accept personal responsibility for other educational activities to enhance job-related skills and abilities, and to attend mandatory educational programs.
- Ability to participate in Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance programs.

Salary Range
$97.00 To $125.00 Per Hour
