JOB SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Adheres to Hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital's Standards of Excellence. Assumes responsibility for care of patients under the supervision, direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse. Participates in assessment of patient needs. Communicates with and functions as a member of the health care team. Provides basic, direct patient care as directed by medical staff and in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the hospital. Participates in patient teaching to the degree consistent with the NAC's scope of practice. Demonstrates knowledge and skills required to function on the unit. Participates in hospital wide and department specific performance improvement activities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Requires active Washington State Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC) license, current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and active/unencumbered driver's license. Previous experience in a behavioral health setting strongly preferred.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse, the ability to participate in the implementation of the interdisciplinary patient plan of care. Ability to organize and prioritize a patient assignment and unit activities. Ability to document to unit standards for specific substance use disorder patient population. Competent in all identified department specific orientation and annual competencies, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment as instructed. Ability to safely use equipment specific to the Recovery Center work environment and patient populations. Effective written and verbal interpersonal communication skills with multidisciplinary team members, ancillary departments and clinical areas, physicians, patients and family members. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including personal computer, photocopier, multi-line telephone and facsimile machine. Ability to identify processes and procedures to improve work processes.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / HAZARDS AND COMPLIANCE
Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and bloodborne pathogens. Risk of exposure to communicable disease, blood and body fluids. Risk of physical injury from lifting patients and operation of equipment. Complies with manager's instructions and hospital policies regarding reporting injuries and hazards/hazardous conditions and attends safety training as required. Works in a safe manner at all times by using appropriate protective equipment and maintains personal protective equipment as instructed. Participates in health and safety initiatives.
WORK CONTACT GROUP: Recovery Center Staff as well as patient related hospital departments, medical staff, patients, families, and visitors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs patient care duties in compliance with EvergreenHealth Monroe's policy, protocol and procedures and within the scope of a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and regulatory standards (DOH, DNV).
- Demonstrates proficiency in department specific skills. Completes, maintains and demonstrates competency in all unit based orientation and annual competencies per regulatory, departmental and hospital standards.
- Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. Obtains vital signs, conducts rounds as required and documents appropriately in the electronic medical record.
- Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors in interacting with others that are courteous, polite, concerned, friendly and respectful. Works with patients to provide choices whenever possible.
- Identifies and responds to individual patient, staff and departmental/hospital safety needs. Implements patient safety goals and standards. Assignments are completed in a safe and accurate manner. Provides for patient safety through preventive measures. Implements appropriate fall risk measures according to the patient's plan of care.
- Operates equipment per manufacturer recommendations; follows procedures in maintaining equipment and reporting equipment malfunction.
- Remains proactive, flexible and supportive of team efforts to meet changing workflow activities related to patient admissions and discharges. Functions as a team member by facilitating the organization and delegation of work assignments based on patient acuity, individual staff assignments, and staff skill /competency levels. Conducts point of care testing and CLIA documentation, as well as assists RN with admission skin assessments and luggage search as delegated.
- Maintains complete, accurate, and legible documentation of care provided and patient responses. Documents in the electronic health record per unit standards.
- Assists nurse in the transfer process of patients from the Detox unit to the Residential unit. Supports patients in the transfer/transition process.
- Performs a variety of front office duties to support patient flow and throughput, including patient admissions, bed assignments, discharging, creating patient charts, inputting patient charges, and completing paperwork according to departmental guidelines.
- Participates in special projects as required to provide support to the department and organization.
- Maintains confidentiality of records, patient, employee or medical center information at all times; ensures that all information and conversations regarding patients are secured from public access.
- Conducts search and inventory of patient belongings, in a safe manner upon admission for contraband or other items that are prohibited.
- Provides transport to patients of the Recovery Center, as needed, using the EvergreenHealth Monroe provided vehicle.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and SEIU Healthcare 1199NW.
