PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT

The Physical Therapist Assistant assists the Physical Therapists and treats patients in accordance with the laws and rules that govern the practice of physical therapy in the state of Ohio.

Responsibility:

  1. Provide patient treatments under the general supervision of a physical therapist as detailed in the plan of care.


Tasks:

    1. Observe and report the patient's reaction to treatment, and any changes in their condition, to the physical therapist.
    2. Document treatment, progress and attendance in the patient's chart.
    3. Use all modalities in the department.
    4. Assist physical therapist in measuring, ordering and fitting braces and supports.
    5. Provide home instruction to the patient on exercise programs and any other instructions.
    6. Meet department productivity requirements.
    7. Delegate components of the care plan to the appropriate personnel.



Responsibility:

  1. Promote the profession of physical therapy and maintain current knowledge in regards to the profession.


Tasks:

    1. Provide for the clinical education of physical therapy students and volunteers.
    2. Apply research findings appropriately to evaluation and intervention processes.
    3. Complete continuing education requirements.
    4. Understand legislative, political, professional and reimbursement issues that affect the practice of physical therapy.
    5. Assist in QI activities.
