General Description:
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports the delivery of urological services, performs work as required and functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team. The Medical Assistant is tasked to perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the medical offices running smoothly. This position collaborates/works with staff within their practice or other professional disciplines within the affiliated medical groups as needed to achieve effective and efficient patient care delivery and the desired patient outcomes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIESOffice Tasks:
Appointment Scheduling: Urology medical assistants handle office tasks, including Scheduling appointments for patients.
Handling Calls: They manage incoming calls, address patient inquiries and provide necessary information.
Clinical Duties:
Patient Interaction: Medical assistants often work directly with patients. They bring patients into examination rooms and record vital statistics such as weight and blood pressure.
Urine Sample Collection: They collect urine samples for testing.
Patient Education: Providing instructions related to Diet, medication, and other aspects of care.
Assisting with Procedures: Preparing patients for x-rays or laboratory tests, removing stitches, and changing bandages.
Skills Required:
Attention to Detail: Precision is crucial, especially when measuring blood pressure or heart rate.
Empathy and Communication: Patients visiting a urologist may be anxious due to potential health issues. A compassionate medical assistant can help put them at ease.
Requirements:
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES
Medical Assistant Certification or Registration
Must demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to perform well in stressful situations.
Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR, Practice Management o Solutions.
Communication skills and customer service oriented.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
Project Management
Vendor relations (for those MA's that are required to order office and clinical supplies)
Database management
Strong problem-solving skills
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program
6 months experience working within a physician's office desired.
Urology experience desired
BLS
FLU Vaccinations
