Medical Assistant
General Summary
SPG is searching for a reliable medical assistant to perform various office and clinical duties. Our medical assistant will work directly with healthcare practice staff to collect test samples, maintain patient records, explain common medical procedures to patients and assist in examinations.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Greet and room patients, conduct initial patient intake.
- Administering medications and vaccinations.
- Prepare charts and consent forms as necessary.
- Assist provider during exams.
- Record patient information such as vital signs, weight and changes in medical history prior to each appointment.
- Performs and completes all quality program health screenings per required metrics.
- Prepare and collect laboratory specimens; ensure proper labeling and submission to external labs.
- Provide telephone medication; new orders and refills as directed by the provider.
- Clean and prepare examination rooms prior to patient appointments.
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies, maintain instruments, and prepare sterilization as required.
- Reviews patient chart, checks for any outstanding lab, x-ray results or any medical visits since last appointment.
- Comply with HIPAA rules and regulations regarding the protection of the patient privacy.
- Coverage at other practices as needed that will require travel to the alternate location.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department, clinic and organization.
Minimum Requirements
- Demonstrates clinical competence in the clinical knowledge and skills area of practice, and assisting provider with procedures.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Must hold current and valid RMA or CMA
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Proficient computer skills for chart completion
- Familiarity with Medical Terminology
- Two years medical assisting experience, Primary Care preferred
- Must be willing to travel between practice locations as needed
- Hours are subject to change based on business demands and provider schedules
- Experience working with Electronic Medical Record system, medical charts, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, speculums, and other nursing items
