Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is independent professional work conducting complex medical laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. A state of Florida Clinical Laboratory License is required.
Performs testing and provides technical support in Syphilis serology, Aptima CT/GC, parasitology, Hepatitis Marker, and Rabies testing sections, including result review and reporting. Oversees and performs quality control and quality assurance related documentation in these sections, including the performance of control procedures when necessary. Participates in all efforts to meet the expected turn-around-time for the section with emphasis on enhanced service whenever possible as part of our goal to attain and provide quick reliable results for better patient management. Participates in laboratory proficiency testing. Follows BPHL/DOH safety guidelines at all times.
Participates in the maintenance of effective documentation and data records for all aspects for sample testing as well as instrument functions. Maintains up-to date inventory of supplies and reagents. Prepares and discards daily medical waste following Bureau of Laboratories Biowaste protocol. Attends staff meetings and required training. Updates procedures as needed.
Performs other laboratory work as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing.
Knowledge of procedures, techniques & equipment used in lab testing and analysis.
Skill in the use of lab equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Qualifications:
Minimum: Candidate must be eligible for a clinical laboratory technologist license or public health license.
Preferred:Associate degree or bachelor's degree.
