Position Purpose:
Performs clinical diagnostic Nuclear Medicine testing. Interacts with the Cardiology Department for Nuclear Cardiology testing. Performs required testing in accordance with state and Federal regulations.
Essential Functions:
1. Performs all Nuclear Medicine studies utilizing specialized equipment.
2. Administers appropriate isotope dosage for the examination, following established guidelines.
3. Follows appropriate radiation safety guidelines, and assures other staff members and patients are secluded in safe areas. Maintains radioactive controls of incoming shipments, and monitors and logs all shipments. Disposes decaying materials in an appropriate fashion.
4. Gives annual radiation safety classes to other ancillary services as required by the IEMA and FDA.
5. Uses computer software programs to analyze various Nuclear Medicine studies, and demonstrates such images on film for the radiologist interpretation.
6. Participates in the on-call rotation to assure 24/7 emergent coverage.
7. Reviews annual department policy & procedure, safety, OSHA. Follows AIDET principles.
Marginal Functions:
Ø Performs both essential and marginal job functions in a safe manner as identified by Saint Anthony Hospital and the respective department while adhering to the Hospital's confidentiality norms and standards. Actively and consistently demonstrates the core values of Saint Anthony Hospital in all interactions with others.
Ø Assumes responsibility for knowing and maintaining established hospital and departmental objectives, policies/procedures including general sanitation, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Ø Participates in performance activities including problem identification, data collection, solution selection, implementation and evaluation. Also assists in the care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies as appropriate.
Ø Participates in staff meetings and other inservices, meetings or committees as required.
Ø Participates in various committee assignments, i.e. radiation safety committee.
Ø Interacts with the Department of cardiology in the scheduling and processing of Nuclear Cardiology procedures. General Job Requirements (List any required knowledge, skills, experiences or training, including length of time necessary for proficiency, required to perform the job.)
• Understanding of the Physics and other related science as it relates to Nuclear medicine Imaging.
• Ordering of radioisotopes in appropriate dosages.
Machines, tools, equipment and work aids required: General office equipment; Other Equipment
Related Qualifications
- Understanding of the Physics and other related science as it relates to Nuclear medicine Imaging.
- 1-3 Years of Nuclear Med experience; specific experience related to radioisotopes
- Able to accurately prepare, measure, calculate and administer radioisotopes as directed
- IEMA License required
- ARRT required; NMTCB preferred
