Nurse Practitioner - Cardiology - Full Time

Position Objective:

To provide cardiac medical services for patients, in both an inpatient hospital setting and an outpatient office setting, under the general supervision and collaboration of a member of the Cardiology Physician team. Requirements of the position also include:

  • Providing education and counseling appropriate to the medical needs of the patient.
  • Communicating treatment / therapy progress with individuals who have the responsibility or control in patient care intervention.
  • Referring patients to appropriate licensed physician or other health care provider as condition or circumstances warrant.
  • Maintaining current licensure and continuing medical education credits as required by Maryland State Law.


Performing duties in accordance with established routine procedures as set forth by the State of Maryland, BPQA (Board of Physicians Quality Assurance), AMA (American Medical Association), HCFA, and AAMC policies.

Essential Job Duties:

Manages a panel of patients in the outpatient setting, in collaboration with Cardiac Physician.

Accurately performs history and physicals for assigned patients. Utilizes sound clinical judgement based on best practice when implementing the medical regimen.

Documents all care provided, including pharmacological dispensing, in an accurate manner.

Completes patient discharge planning and education; writes appropriate orders and prescriptions. Performs patient education and counseling to promote wellness.

Evaluates patient's progress toward attaining expected outcomes. Evaluates effectiveness of interventions in relation to outcomes. Documents patient's response to interventions.

Maintains accurate, legible, and confidential medical records in accordance with federal and state laws.

Assists Cardiac Physicians with performing outpatient cardiac diagnostic tests, including but not limited to, Cardiac Exercise Stress Tests, Pharmacologic Cardiac Exercise Stress Tests and Stress Echocardiograms.

Organizes the inpatient Cardiac consultative service on a daily basis, assisting the rounding Cardiac Physician with all patient care duties.

All other duties as assigned, within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner.

At least 2 years of experience in cardiology proficiency.

Required License/Certifications:

Current Maryland Registered Nurse Practitioner

Maryland CDS, DEA

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Physical Demands - Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work
