Nurse Research Scientist

Part-time, 24 hours p/week

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing Research and Education, the Nursing Research Scientist has responsibility and
accountability for the conduct of nursing research throughout the Department of Nursing and directs and evaluates the Research
and Evidence-Based Nursing Program with the Department of Nursing. The Nursing Research Scientist, advances knowledge and
clinical practice by creating a spirit of inquiry and culture that supports the bedside, and advances a research agenda across the
DHMC community. The Nursing Research Scientist mentor's novice nurse researchers; teaches staff about Nursing research and
evidence-based practice; and works to procure outside funding in support of Nursing research.

Responsibilities

  1. Reports to the Nursing Director of Education and Research
  2. Work in close collaboration nursing leadership (e.g., CNO, VP, Directors, Managers, CNL, CE) to execute strategic planning initiatives
    and overcome barriers.
  3. Develops and evaluates a Nursing Research and Evidence Based Practice programs that enhances scientific knowledge for the
    provision of nursing care.
  4. Develops a systematic framework for categorizing and prioritizing researchable issues identified by nurses.
    Responsible for educating all nurses, and other disciplines as appropriate, in design, methodology and analysis of researchable
    issues.
  5. Promotes and coordinates nurses and other disciplines as appropriate in generating, conducting and replicating research studies
    Promotes, educates, and supervises nurses throughout the Department of Nursing in the critique and utilization of nursing
    research findings.
  6. Develops and promotes a process for developing and monitoring evidence-based nursing policies, procedures, and clinical
    guidelines.
  7. Supports and promotes professional and community activities related to research.
  8. Models, encourages, and promotes involvement in local, regional, national and international research activities/conferences
  9. Seeks internal and external research funding for the advancement of scholarly research, and oversees and manages nursing
    research monies.



Qualifications

  • PhD in Nursing Science or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the development of nursing and interdisciplinary research.
  • On-going focused research program of study.
  • Distinguished record of funded research. Demonstrated competence and experience in the development, utilization, and evaluation of Nursing Research for a hospital-based program.
  • Successful track record of nursing research projects (external funding and publication).
  • Academic, clinical, and leadership experiences including experience as both a mentor to novice nurses and as an educator to nursing staff.
