- Provides psychiatric evaluation to patients. Provides medication management to patients. Provides education to patients and their families regarding their medical status and progress. Provides consultant services to MDH medical staff. Attends clinical staff meetings. Attends medical staff meetings.

- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Board Eligible/Board Certified in Psychiatry; M.D. or D.O. Licensed MD/DO in state of Illinois. Active member of MDH Medical Staff.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must possess considerable knowledge of the full range of psychiatric disorders and of the pharmacological management of such disorders. Must have knowledge of the process of supervision and consultation. Must be knowledgeable regarding state and federal regulations governing the care of the patient. Must be knowledgeable about legal considerations in providing mental Healthcare. - ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS
- Sufficient maturity and emotional stability to deal with sometimes difficult and discouraging conditions; personal integrity.
- Understanding and empathy for people who have medical and/or psychiatric problems that may affect their families as well as themselves. Ability to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, and emotionally upset.
- An interest in working with other agency personnel to help solve addiction problems as well as other family, marital and individual problems.
- Ability to function independently.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with others. Required to confer with hospital administration, department directors, physicians and people of diverse educational and rural backgrounds and professions within the community, to understand and interpret medical and psychiatric information, to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and education, to prepare case reports, etc.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information.
- Ability to make decisions concerning procedures based on evaluation and interpretations of case histories.
- Ability to deal with a variety of situations such as: Planning programs, contacting agencies, and participating in teaching programs.
- Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
