About Pee Dee Regional Center
Pee Dee Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Florence, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Job Responsibilities
Through professional oversight, the incumbent ensures that medical services provided at Pee Dee Center comply with Health Care Guidelines, ICF guidelines, Internal Procedures, and Departmental Directives. Actively evaluates, diagnoses, and treats medical disorders or injuries for consumers. Facilitates the exchange of medical information and ideas between physicians, nurse practitioners and related professional staff.
- Serves as Medical Director providing professional oversight to medical providers (staff physicians and nurse practitioners). Ensures that residents receive preventative services and prompt treatment for acute and chronic health conditions with DPH standards for physician's services. Ensures 24 hour physician medical coverage for the residents.
- Prepares medical histories and examines new residents admitted to Pee Dee Center. Provides physicals to all residents in assigned caseload on an annual basis.
- Diagnoses physical disorders and administers medical treatment as required to meet the health needs of residents in assigned patient caseload. Documents medical status in physician's notes. Assists in coverage for other physician's caseload as required.
- Participates in interdisciplinary Team Meetings and Quarterly Drug Reviews as required to address patient care.
- Provides medical care to residents after hours, holidays, and weekends on a scheduled rotation.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Facility Administrator.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
Graduate of an approved and accredited school of medicine with a M.D. Degree; completion of internship or one year residency training program.
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of principles and practice of medicine in the care and treatment of the physically ill; extensive knowledge of the techniques involved in diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries. Knowledge of primary care medicine with the ability to function in an outpatient, long-term care setting. Ability to supervise professional staff. Strong communication skills; ability to convey clear and concise instructions to colleagues and staff; good interpersonal skills; good organizational skills.
