Job Summary

The PA III typically works in a multidisciplinary setting including first assist, procedures (chest tube, line placement, etc), multiple inpatient units managing patient care which includes critical care, trauma, and surgery. A PA is a graduate with a master's degree or certificate from an accredited physician assistant program at an accredited school or college. The PA functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients. The PA is licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine and the Board of Osteopathic Medicine to perform medical services delegated by the supervising physician(s).'
First Physicians Group of Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System is seeking to employ a Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join their Trauma / Emergency General Surgery team at Sarasota Memorial Hospital on the night shift (6:00 P.M. - 6:00 A.M.). The Trauma team includes nine (9) Trauma Surgeons and 23 Advanced Practice Providers to cover an ADC of 40-60 patients with seasonal fluctuations.
Sarasota Memorial Hospital is a CMS 5-Star rated hospital for overall quality. The only hospital in Florida and one of just 17 hospitals in the U.S. to receive the highest five-star rating in all reporting periods since the program's inception in 2016. Sarasota Memorial Hospital - Sarasota recently went through its fifth consecutive Magnet recognition survey from the ANCC, the credentialing body of the American Nurses Association - a humbling achievement that fewer than 1% of the nation's hospitals have attained.
Today, we are a full-service public health system, with two hospitals and a Cancer Institute offering specialized expertise in heart, vascular, cancer, orthopedic and neuroscience services, and a network of outpatient centers, urgent care centers, laboratories, diagnostic imaging and physician practices, skilled nursing and rehabilitation among our many programs. We are a Level II Trauma Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center
Responsibilities include:
- 13 shifts a month working 6:00 P.M. - 6:00 A.M. Must be flexible and willing to work occasional weekends and holidays.
- Trauma response in the Emergency Department, rounding in Surgical Trauma ICU and hospital floors.
- PA-C will see patients in the general surgery and trauma acute care outpatient clinic and provide Surgical First Assist in the operating room for both elective, acute care, and traumatic surgical cases.
- Ability to perform procedures including, but not limited to, placement and removal of chest tubes, arterial lines, and central venous catheters.
Requirements:
- NCCPA Certified with a license to practice in Florida.
- ACLS/BLS required. ATLS is preferred and can be obtained at Sarasota Memorial Hospital if not currently certified.
- Trauma experience required. ICU experience is preferred.
- Qualified candidate must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and ability to work within a team.

Required Qualifications
- Require current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
