Description

The Physicist provides professional medical physics services and works with Radiation Oncologists in designing and modifying radiation treatment for patients including evaluating and interpreting medical radiation treatment prescriptions. The on site Physicist engages in treatment planning, research and development, policy drafting, and monitoring health & safety regulations. Responsible for equipment monitoring and calibration.

  1. Performs calibration checks, safety surveys and acceptance testing of linear accelerators, and other sources of radiation to ensure correct and consistent results or outputs are achieved
  2. Develops, supervises, and maintains quality assurance programs throughout radiation therapy
  3. Consults with radiation oncologists and staff concerning patient treatments and radiation safety
  4. Trains and advises technical staff on new equipment and protocols
  5. Lectures and trains other health professionals
  6. Responds to problems, and provides advice and technical assistance as needed
  7. Researches new equipment developments and techniques, assessing the impact on existing clinical practices
  8. Updates knowledge of health and safety legislation and procedures
  9. Other duties as assigned



Qualifications

Minimum of MS required in Radiation Therapeutic Medical Physics. At least 6 months of experience related to duties and responsibilities specified herein. Board certified as Medical Physicist (ABR, ABMP, or equivalent) preferred. Texas State License in Therapeutic Medical Physics required.

LIST ANY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR SKILLS REQUIRED TO INCLUDE LANGUAGE AND EQUIPMENT. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Skilled in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. In-depth knowledge and understanding of current radiation therapy principles, methods, procedures, and techniques. Knowledge and understanding of the operational characteristics, usage, and safety parameters of a comprehensive range of radiation therapy equipment and facilities. Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops. Broad product knowledge in area of specialty and ability to develop purchasing specifications.
