GSK Apprenticeships are full-time entry level opportunities that offer high school graduates and community college students the opportunity to begin their career while studying towards their associate degree. This associate degree is fully funded by GSK, which YES, means NO COLLEGE DEBT!

Education required:

  • Must have earned a high school diploma or equivalency diploma by June 2025.


  • High school GPA 2.5 ("B") or above (4.0 scale)


  • High school Algebra and Geometry or 2 units equivalent of academic math (GPA 2.5 or above in each case)


  • High school English (GPA 2.5 or above)


  • High school Biology or Chemistry (GPA 2.5 or above)


  • Must have 0- 30 college credits


Preferred requirements:

Minimum unweighted B grade in Biology and Chemistry.

Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English

Other requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age by August 1, 2025


  • Less than 2 years of related work experience since graduating from high school


  • If offered a position the candidate must be willing to enroll, and meet entry requirements, with one of GSK's partnering community colleges or technical institutions, in the preferred related instruction course.


  • Must live within 60-minute commute to GSK worksite and partner community college (either by public transportation or driving) and commute on a daily basis


Start date: August 2025

We are looking for highly motivated high school graduates with an interest in science who are looking to jump start their career in the biopharmaceutical industry. The apprenticeship program allows you to develop hands-on technical skills in our quality control labs while continuing your education.

Working at our biopharmaceutical manufacturing sites you will help to ensure we have the latest, safe, efficient, and reliable processes and equipment to deliver life-saving medicines and vaccines to people in 90% of the world's countries. This role will enable you to develop your skills in an industry that's making radical changes to the way it develops and manufactures products.

Ahead together with tailored training and career development

This entry-level development opportunity offers you the chance to study towards nationally recognized qualifications while gaining hands-on, paid on-the-job training. Our apprentices attend college part-time studying theory elements of the apprenticeship while working at a GSK Biopharma Manufacturing facility.

Quality Control apprentices at Rockville will spend approx.1 day per week studying towards an associate degree at Montgomery College in Maryland. You will spend most of your week in our quality control labs to gain work experience in a biopharmaceutical setting, train on Standard Operating Procedures, and may assist with sample and/or compendial method testing under current Good Manufacturing Practices conditions, management of samples/reagents and equipment, mammalian cell culture, laboratory duties, lab investigations and change controls. Over the 3- 4 years of the apprenticeship you will have a personal training program to help you develop and progress.

What will you do?

As a Quality Control apprentice, you may get involved in the following activities:

  • Complete daily assigned routine tasks timely and accurately (may include collection and/or testing of GMP samples as assigned, reporting of data, general lab housekeeping)


  • Perform laboratory duties and safety checks following all safety, GMP, CFR and other regulations to assure laboratory compliance


  • Operate and maintain QC laboratory equipment/instrument per GMP, including responsibilities for installing or deactivating equipment/instrument per GMP procedures, as assigned


  • May work with manager to conduct laboratory investigations, deviations and change controls


  • Assist in critical reagent qualification/re-qualification, with supervision.


  • Paperwork review, data entry, filing, etc.


  • Generation of data reports and/or trends


  • Identify areas for improvement or gaps


  • Effectively communicate issues/hurdles to team lead and/or manager

The hourly pay rate for new hires in this position is $17.50 taking into account a number of factors including work location within the US market, the candidate's skills, experience, education level and the market rate for the role. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program which is dependent on the level of the role.
