Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work onsite Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, excluding holidays.
  • Provide evaluation and treatment of transported inpatient and outpatient clinical services for both palliative and curative cancer patients.
  • Provide follow-up, re-evaluation, and treatment visits, when applicable.
  • Perform prostate seed implants (if applicable) in the OR.
  • Provide evaluation and treatment plans.
  • Follow patients for treatment management, continuous monitoring, and follow-up evaluations.
  • Complete any documentation associated with the treatment provided to VA patients treated by them.
  • Use the following advanced modalities: IMRT, IGRT, Sterotactic Radiosurgery, and Sterotactic Radiotherapy in accordance with the appropriateness criteria promulgated by the American College of Radiology, American Society for Radiation Oncology, and American Association for Physicist in Medicine.
  • Provide (1) Patient Consultation and Pretreatment Evaluation, (2) Treatment Planning and Management, (3) Treatment Discharge, and (4) Follow-Up Evaluations.
  • Participate in Peer Review Conferences and Administrative Meetings as required.
  • Attend quality improvement meetings, staff meetings, and oncology-specific conferences.
  • Enter notes and maintain patient records in a paperless medical record system.
  • Participate in peer review and quality improvement activities to maintain high standards of care.
  • Engage in committee membership as required, contributing to the governance and improvement of medical practices at the facility.
  • Understand and abide by the Medical Bylaws of the facility and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Be available on-call during hours when the Facility clinic is closed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays (on-call schedule is TBD).
  • Experience in Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT).
  • Possession of a clear and active DEA.
  • Strong clinical and surgical skills with a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for educating and counseling patients and their families.
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records and maintaining accurate patient documentation.
  • An ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Dedication to continuous improvement and participation in quality improvement activities.

Professional CertificationsBoard certification in radiation oncology from the American Board of Radiology (ABR)

A current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent

Possession of a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia

Board Certified by the ABRYears of Professional Experience5+ years of clinical experience (excluding residency)

Three (3) years of experience in Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)

A minimum of 10 documented cases within the last two (2) years in Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)

Three (3) years of Eclipse treatment planning system experience

Three (3) years of ARIA record and verify system, including the following treatment modalities: 2D/3D Conformal, SRS, SRT, SBRT, and IMRT/VMAT (following standards of Task Group (TG)-53).
Desired experiencen/aFormal EducationDoctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by VA for the year in which the course of study was completed
