Risk Manager Non-RN, Full Time, Day Shift

Position Summary:

The Risk Manager is an extension of Administration and is directly responsible for the management of the Risk Management Program, in accordance with Florida Statutes, and the Hospital's Safety Management Program.

S/he is granted the authority to effect immediate correction(s) of life-threatening conditions, and in particular, violations of life safety code, JCAHO, NFPA, HRS and other regulatory agencies. S/he has access to all medical records, medical staff records, physical plant documents, and any other records necessary to carry out the position's functions and has authority to comply with statutory reporting requirements.

S/he is responsible for managing claims against the facility, interfacing with defense legal counsel, administering the risk management and safety management programs on a day-to-day basis, managing, and analyzing risk and safety data, conducting risk and safety educational programs, complying with JCAHO applicable standards, and assisting with insurance and risk financing, all with the objective of controlling and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the facility.

Position Qualification: (Training, Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities):

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree in health management or MBA preferred. Certification in quality assurance or ARM designation ideal.
  • Possess three or more years of healthcare experience; Familiar with the operations of the healthcare industry and healthcare delivery systems and/or the Florida legal system.
  • Able to use abstract judgment & critical thinking skills to draw valid conclusions based upon less than common variables.
  • Able to utilize Word, Excel, PowerPoint computer programs for reports and presentations.
  • Able to organize information, people, and resources.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills; basic computer literacy required.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in State law regarding risk management, quality, and peer review processes. Demonstrates proficiency in the scientific approach and currency in JCAHO accreditation requirements and processes.
  • Experience in Peer Review and other health care regulatory agencies required.
  • Understanding of the principles of continuous quality improvement required.
  • Previous experience in Risk Management preferred.


Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current Florida license as a Health Care Risk Manager
  • Registered Nurse Preferred


Language Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written skills in the English language
