Under the direction of the Manager, the Charge Nurse supervises and coordinates the daily operations of the Urgent Care Clinics for assigned shifts. This includes the daily staffing assignments, coordination of department resources. Responsible for coordinating and supervising nursing staff, and Medical Assistants. Monitors the performance of competency, gives verbal and written input for annual performance evaluations, as well as assisting the manager regarding the compliance of policies and procedures. Functions as a liaison for medical staff and other customers for the manager when not present. Contributes to the development of policies and procedures, performance improvement plans. Also Charge Nurse has general oversight for staff orientation, and development. Charge Nurse is responsible for optimal provision of quality patient care. Demonstrates commitment to system values through customer service focus, and continuous process improvement. Facilitates staff involvement in performance excellence.

Qualifications
Education
Required: BSN or MSN or enrollment in an RN-BSN or RN-MSN program within 1 years of hire and completion within 5 years of hire if hired after July 1, 2012
Licensure/Certification
Required: California RN Licensure, American Heart Association BLS
Experience
Preferred: 1 to 2 years' experience in the area of specialty or in area of higher acuity previous ER experience preferred previous supervisory position preferred.
Essential Responsibilities
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
Monitors department specific standards of care/practice.
Assists with collection of data for Nursing P.I. projects.
Assists in monitoring unit readiness in Joint Commission, California and Federal standards.
Ensures daily assessment of unit equipment to maintain quality controls (i.e. POCT's, Med Refrigerators (where applicable).
Provides coaching for staff as necessary.
Rounds with staff members to evaluate care and services given to patients.
Facilitates availability of adequate material resources and supplies.
Assists control of expenditures within the department.
Demonstrates proficiency in assessing shift staffing needs consistent with patient mix, census and acuity levels.
Sets priorities appropriate to daily patient/physician dynamics.
Assures patient acuity classification is completed.
Maintains communication and resolves issues regarding shift activities.
Coaches and educates staff Nurses regarding clinical questions.
Retains clinical skills for execution of patient care as necessary.
Collaborates with staff regarding physician notification.
Completes performance evaluations on time.
Promotes efficient patient care throughput unity in the Urgent Care Clinics
Demonstrates effective problem solving techniques for daily situations.
Serves as clinical and administrative resource to staff.
