Senior Medical Director, Neurology Medical Affairs

Summary of role

The Senior Medical Director, Neurology Medical Affairs, is a crucial leadership role focused on shaping and executing the medical strategy for neurology diagnostics and therapeutics, with a focus on Alzheimer's Disease. This seasoned professional will provide medical and scientific expertise, working closely with cross-functional teams to support product development, medical strategy, and commercialization. Key responsibilities include overseeing the neurology medical affairs team and medical strategy, ensuring cross functional strategic alignment, and leading the integrated evidence planning process. The role demands a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships within the medical and scientific community to advance innovative treatments and improve patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership:

  • Lead the neurology Global Medical Affairs Team and guide the team in the development of the integrated medical affairs strategy (annual or launch planning) and budget for the neurology therapeutic area.
  • Ensure effective execution of the strategic plan with initiatives delivered on-time, within budget and with measurable outcomes.
  • Ensure strategic and cross-functional alignment across the organization and any joint ventures to achieve the medical mission of supporting safe and appropriate use of a particular brand(s)/projects.
  • Serve as a key member of the Medical Affairs leadership team, contributing to informed decision-making.
  • Lead the review and approval of IST concepts/protocols according to applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs).


Medical Expertise:

  • Provide expert medical and scientific guidance on neurology-related products and projects.
  • Stay abreast of the latest scientific developments, clinical guidelines, and competitive landscape within the neurology field.


Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with R&D, Commercial, Regulatory, and other departments to support asset development and commercialization effort.
  • Collaborate with Market Access and HEOR teams to develop and communicate the value proposition of neurology products


Medical Education and Communication:

  • Working with the Medical Affairs Communications team, oversee the development and dissemination of high-quality scientific and clinical content, including publications, presentations, and educational materials.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the company at scientific conferences, advisory boards, and other external engagements.


External Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare professionals, and advocacy groups in the neurology community.
  • Facilitate advisory boards and expert panels to gather insights and feedback on company products and strategies.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure all medical activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies
    • Collaborate with the Pharmacovigilance team in the management of post-marketing safety data, and communication of identified safety signals


Basic Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) in a related discipline strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of clinical, medical or research experience, with a minimum of 4 years pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience, with a focus on neurology.
  • Strong track record of leadership in Medical Affairs, including strategic planning and execution.
  • In-depth knowledge of Medical Affairs, regulatory requirements, and commercialization.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to build and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support business objectives.
  • This position is site-based and requires a presence on-site of 3 days per week in Bedford, MA when not traveling.


Other Requirements

  • Preferred Experience in Alzheimer's Disease diagnostics and nuclear medicine expertise.
  • Preferred experience in a global or regional Medical Affairs role.
