Speech Language Therapist

  • Position Summary

    • Speech Language Pathologists are responsible for assessing diagnosing and treating speech, language, social, communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in children to adults.
  • Education and Experience Requirements

    • EDUCATION:

      • Required:

        • Completion of an accredited speech therapist educational program
      • Preferred:
    • LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

      • Required:

        • Active license to practice speech therapy in the state of Iowa
        • BLS
      • Preferred:

        • Valid Drivers License
    • TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

      • Required:

        • None required if education and licensure are met

  • Essential Job Functions

    • Obtain information from physicians, providers and patients needed to develop plans of care for inpatient and outpatient populations.
    • Conduct and make recommendations utilizing video swallow fluoroscopies with radiologist and radiology department.
    • Utilize electronic medical record to document care plans, daily notes, updated care plans as outlined in policies and procedures of the rehabilitation department.
    • Supervise speech therapy assistants, technicians, and other rehabilitation services support staff.
    • Participate in staff conferences, in-services and educational programs.
    • May effectively work with a variety of age groups from pediatrics to geriatrics.
    • Maintain licensure through approved continuing education hours as required by the state of Iowa.
    • Maintains familiarity with various types of medical insurance and obtain pre-authorizations or re-authorization as required by patients' health care insurers or managed care providers.
    • Perform other related duties as required from rehabilitation director.
