Surgical Technologist Orthopedics SCMG
Summary
The Surgical Technologist-Orthopedic is a trained member of the orthopedic team who works with Orthopedic Surgeons, Physician Assistants and X-ray Technologists-Orthopedic to deliver high quality musculoskeletal care. The Surgical Technologist-Orthopedic is responsible for assisting the providers in the office and in the operating room by performing various tasks, including but not limited to the following: rooming patients, changing dressings, removing sutures/staples, use of the electronic medical record to assist with documentation of patient encounters, applying and removing casts and splints, fitting and applying braces, fitting and instructing patients on the use of ambulatory aids (i.e. walkers, crutches and canes), positioning patients for surgery, setting up surgical cases in the operating room, handling and passing instruments during surgery, retracting during surgery, applying dressings and performing instrument and needle counts.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Meets one of the following:
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program and certification as a surgical technologist. Recent graduates must obtain certification within 6 months of completing the surgical technology education program.
- Successful completion of a surgical technology training program in the US Army, Navy or Air Force.
- Work experience as a surgical technologist and active surgical technology certification.
- EX years of experience as a surgical technologist and active surgical technology certificaiton.hnician rmployment with St. Clair Hospital as a surgical technologist on or before December 28, 2020, in accordance with PA Act 80 of 2020.
- Employment with a healthcare facility, practicing surgical technology as the primary function, at any time during the 2 years prior to December 28, 2020, in accordance with PA Act 80 of 2020.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Interest in and willingness to complete training as an orthopedic technologist that will be provided by St. Clair Health.
